The 3R’S Every Inspiring Author Should Know
When speaking with interested writers, I am often asked this question:
“Where or how do I begin writing my story?”
My reply is, “From the beginning!”
When I say from the beginning, what I actually mean is, “Begin putting your thoughts pen to paper or voice to recorder as soon as possible.” There are many people who are inspired to write, walking around with their stories in their head. Hellooo..That’s not good enough! You have to get it out of your head, because what happens when you have that dreaded ” UT Oh! I should of had a V8 moment” where you’re plucking yourself upside the head, because you forgot that award winning cliff hanger or that awesome plot you had in mind the day before that you forgot?
DO NOT take a chance at losing that million dollar thought or story line for your #1 best seller. Write it down or record it; not just to memory, but to Memorex.
Here’s what I what you to know:
1. REALIZE -There is a beginning, a middle, and an end to your story. However, you don’t necessarily have to begin writing precisely in that order. Meaning, you could start with the end of your story first or start with the middle of your story last, and then the beginning of your story. The bottom line I want to get across here, is there are no hard or fast rules when it comes to getting started. Just get started! Put that pen and pencil to work creating your story, and watch as your creativity begins to take form and roll into sequence!
Realize that if you’re looking to make money with your book or books, the value of your story must become valuable to your readers. After all, it is your readers you want to captivate and convince that your book is the one!
Realize, and keep in mind, that you want to convey to your readers a strong emotion, an intimate thought, an innovative idea or a lesson which you’ve learn that could be valuable to them now or in the future. You want them to hang onto every word, to savor each paragraph, and then hook them! That’s right. Keep them coming back for more! Realize this, it’s not all about you, it’s all about them!
2. RELEASE – Once you’ve realized the value of your story, you must release any fear, uncertainty or doubts about releasing it to your audience.
Release and let go of your story to the masses. Be prepared to overcome any obstacles that may prevent you from embracing your success. That means letting go of people, places, or things that add no constructive value.
3. RECOVER/RECEIVE – I use these two words interchangeably, because, once you’ve applied the steps to the first 2 R’s (Realize & Release) you can now begin to recover all that’s in store for you, or begin to receive all that is in store for you. Self satisfaction, gratification confidence, fame, recognition,adulation, and all the other rewards that follow. You deserve to profit from the talent you possess. So, GO FOR IT!
